This year the opportunity was there to ride the Scarbrough Spa Express behind none other than West Coast Railway pet engine No. 46115 Scots Guardsman. Having seen the engine up close at Carnforth last year I had been impressed with its immaculate finish and developed a sudden soft spot for the locomotive.
This day I was to experience that the relatively short engine, compared to pacific engines of a similar role, packed in plenty of power and indeed was more than capable.
The route this year was also changed from the Harrogate Circle line to go via Castleford, which brought plenty of people out to see and board the train. A pleasant day out...
